It is week 2 of term at UNSW Sydney. This week, one hundred first year Earth and Environmental Science class had an Earth and Environmental campus tour.

They got to understand the geology of the Sydney campus, and how the geology allows groundwater replenishment. This is important for the university to be able to have a stormwater harvesting system which then allows sustainable groundwater extraction.

They found one of the groundwater bores that supplies non-potable water across campus.

They uploaded the digital maps app and the Geoscience NSW geology sheet onto their phones and then worked out from the geology why the campus is on three levels.

And there were research facilities to visit, including a tour of the Chronos radiocarbon laboratory as shown in the image.
