The end of the course is just one week away, and the UNSW Earth and Environmental Science students are finalising their investigation of Sydney soil lead pollution.

Three weeks ago they sampled soils from around Sydney, two weeks ago they analysed them using x-ray fluorescence analysis, and last week they decided on some hypotheses, and collected the necessary data to test them.

Which resulted in a database that had been worked on by multiple people. So this week the one hundred students in the class gained some more cv skills in database cleaning, followed by some exploratory data analysis.

Many thanks to my colleague and data scientist Dr. Micha Campbell for jointly teaching the class this week and helping answer the numerous student questions about data cleaning, Excel ‘how to’ questions and PC/Mac compatibility questions.
